On June 6, 1970, a Chicano Student rally sponsored by MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztl\u00e1n) was held in Coachella, California. The rally was run by Carlos Legrette and Jos\u00e9 Uribe of the San Diego MEChA chapter, and the keynote speakers were Bert Corona, Abe Tapia, and Ralph Guzm\u00e1n. Alfredo Acosta Figueroa performed music during the event. Rodolfo “Corky” Gonz\u00e1lez from the Crusade for Justice in Denver, Colorado, spoke on the need for Chicano unity as he called for a general strike for September 16, 1970, and introduced C\u00e9sar Ch\u00e1vez to a ten-minute standing ovation from the students at the rally. About three thousand students came out to support the farm workers and La Causa.<\/span><\/p>\n
