In an oral history, Eliseo Medina describes the grape cycle for farmworkers in Delano: “It was during the winter they worked in pruning and tying the grape vines. Then, in the spring, they would work on thinning and pulling leaves from around the grapevine to make room for the grapes and they would get exposed to the sun….

And then starting around July, the harvest will start and they would work in picking grapes until about October, then was the off period. So, then they would go pick oranges the rest of the year until the pruning season started again.”
