En route to Highway City, 17 miles north, the group passed through Calwa before reaching Fresno, a major city of over 150,000 residents. In Fresno, they met Mayor Floyd H. Hyde at City Hall, had lunch in Roeding Park with live music, and received food donations from residents. It was in this same city that the Farm Workers Association (FWA) had established itself just four years earlier, in 1962, with a founding convention at the Edison Social Hall where the iconic black eagle logo was revealed.
