Approximately 300 union members and their families voted and installed officers of the Sierra Vista and Arvin workers committees. César Chávez, United Farm Workers Organizing Committee (UFWOC) director, administered oaths to the officers. The Sierra Vista and Arvin ranches are part of the DiGiorgio complex, at which the union won representation elections in 1966. According to El Malcriado, the officers were: (Sierra Vista) Joe Serda, María Navarro, Eugene Anderson, and Salvador Arámbula. (Arvin) Mack Lyons, Art Kemplin, Guadalupe Castro, Herb Hatridge, and Eduviges Lugo. Dolores Huerta, UFWOC vice-president, told the members that a decision by arbitrators would be reached by April 1 on wages, hiring hall, and successor clauses in the DiGiorgio contract. All other parts of the contract were in force. Special guests at the meeting were Mr. And Mrs. Charles Bryant of McCombs, Mississippi. Charles Bryant was a 1964 convention delegate of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party.
